It is unclear if the closure of the shops is a result of safety concerns.

Following Obi's emergence as the winner in Lagos, some non-indigenes say they feel threatened to move freely, as shops in markets dominated by them are closed.  

As of this time, Peter Obi is leading in Lagos State but results from Alimosho, Ojo, and Mushin are still being expected.

Around 5 pm, INEC officials and the available officers from the Igando Police station were attempting to calm the crowd and calculate the votes but the voters were becoming rowdy. This prompted a distress call to the station with the officers arriving in two Sienna space buses and a white van to move the ballot boxes to their station for counting while advising available party agents to go with them.
