FOR the first time in nine years, there is a new name on the Forbes list for the highest-earning footballer of the year, and it is neither Lionel Messi nor Cristiano Ronaldo.
France and Paris Saint-German forward, Kylian Mbappe has, for the first time in his career, been named the highest-earning footballer of the year with a whooping take home of $128 million for the 2022-23 season before agents’ fees.
The 23-year-old goal-scoring machine now holds a record in the magazine’s annual rankings and it is all thanks to his newly improved contract with the Ligue 1 big boys, Paris Saint-German.
Club teammate, Lionel Messi drops to second at $120 million while Manchester United’s Ronaldo is third at $100 million.
PSG and Brazil’s Neymar Jr places fourth with $87 million while Liverpool and Egypt forward, Mohamed Salah places fifth with $53 million.
Manchester City’s Erling Haaland, who is on a scoring rampage, debuts on the top ten list at sixth with an earning of $39 million.
