ERIK Ten Hag has requested more patience with him and the club after a series of poor performances, which has resulted in Manchester United missing out on the top four.

A 1-1 draw against Burnley and an Aston Villa 2-2 draw against Chelsea has confirmed that the Red Devils mathematically can't finish in the top four this season, which guarantees UEFA Champions League qualification for next season.

This is a downgrade from last season's performance, which saw United finish third and qualify for the Champions League, unlike this season in which they can finish no higher than fifth.

“We have some very young players and that is why we built this club back and that takes time,” Ten Hag said.

“We built it by bringing in young players like Alejandro Garnacho, Rasmus Højlund, and Kobbie Mainoo and they are all in the first season of the Premier League. The Premier League gets more and more intense year by year.

“Those players have to adjust and that takes time. I am very impatient but we need patience,” he added.

United are currently sixth on the table with 54 points in 34 games in the league and would have to struggle to hold on tight should they want to play in the UEFA Europa League next season.
