Taiwo Awoniyi wants Finidi George to succeed

Awoniyi, who is very familiar with Finidi during his time as assistant manager, believes that the Gaffer has the right character and quality to lead the team.

SUPER Eagles of Nigeria and Nottingham Forest striker, Taiwo Awoniyi is happy with Finidi George's appointment and hopes the manager succeeds during his time with the national team.

The 53-year-old, who served as Enyimba's Head Coach and was previously an assistant to Peseiro, was unveiled as the new Head Coach of the three-time African champions this week.

Awoniyi, who is very familiar with Finidi during his time as assistant manager, believes that the Gaffer has the right character and quality to lead the team.

“I think being the assistant, with what he has achieved for the country and the humility that he has shown to the players; like I always say, everyone deserves a great opportunity.

“We have a lot of players and a good coach as well, it’s just to get it right on the field,” the deadly striker told popular journalist, Tobi Adepoju, in an exclusive interview.

Awoniyi is expected to be listed in the Super Eagles squad for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin, which will take place on June 7 and June 10, respectively.
