SUPER Eagles of Nigeria midfielder, Alex Iwobi has set a new Premier League record for the most minutes played in the League by a Nigerian player.
The Fulham man, who played 90 minutes in the 1-0 loss against Newcastle, became the Nigerian player with the most minutes played in the English Premier League, surpassing John Mikel Obi.
Alex Iwobi took his Premier League minutes to a total of 16,289 minutes, surpassing the record set by John Mikel Obi,16,218 minutes, during his eleven years of successful stay at Chelsea.
Mikel, who held the record for a long time, having left the Premier League in 2016-2017 after winning two Premier League titles, four FA Cups, and the prestigious 2011-12 Champions League trophy, has seen his record broken by a Hale End Academy boy.
Iwobi, who began his football career at Arsenal before moving to Everton and then Fulham could still extend the record as the 2023-24 season still has over seven games left.
Should he remain in the Premier League at the end of the season, Iwobi could set a record that could be difficult to break anytime soon.
