IVORY coast and Ajax striker, Sebastian Haller matched Cristiano Ronaldo's Champions League goal-scoring record in Ajax's 4-2 win against Sporting Lisbon.

The 27-year-old had slotted in an early penalty to add his name to the history book as he, and five-times Ballon d'Or winner, Ronaldo, in 2017-18, have scored in all six group games of a Champions League's campaign.

The striker has scored stunning 10 goals in six group stage matches and has equaled the tally of top scorer Erling Haaland in last season's competition.

"It means a lot," Haller told Ziggo Sport television.

"When you start something, it's your dream to play these games and you want to do it well. I'm really happy and proud."

Haller had joined England club West-Ham for a club-record fee of £45m from Eintracht Frankfurt in 2019, but could only net 7 league goals in his first season with the club and eventually made a switch to Netherland in January 2021.
