Liverpool is facing more defensive crises as defender Joe Gomez suffers a knee injury during England training.

Gomez will miss England friendly against Ireland on Thursday and Nation League against Belgium and Iceland.

This is a big hit to the defending Premier League Champions side, Liverpool, who are already without Virgil Van Dijk who suffered a cruciate ligament injury. Fabinho is also out with hamstring problem as Trent Alexander Arnold is also on calf injury.

"I can't tell you how serious it is because he is yet to have scans. What was upsetting was he was in a fair bit of pain and nobody was around him when the injury happened, I didn't like that element of it. We are all hopeful for him that it is not what it might be," said England boss Gareth Southgate.

England goalkeeper Nick Pope, who sat alongside Southgate, explained how Gomez's injury came about

"Joe made a pass or movement with nobody around him and ended up on the floor and was obviously in a great deal of pain," the Burnley shot-stopper said.

"To see Joe go through something like that and see how much pain he was in wasn’t easy for me or any of the lads."
