MANCHESTER United's boss Erik Ten Hag has pinpointed injury problems as the reason they fell to Manchester City on Sunday at the Etihad.

The Red Devils came into the game in high spirits as Marcus Rashford found the opening goal in the first half of the game, however, Manchester City took charge of the second half as a brace from Phil Fiden and a goal from Erling Haaland gave the visitors a 3-1 win.

Speaking after the game, Ten Hag refused to admit that the game did not prove who was better as he believes injury and missed chances were the reason for the downfall.

“We have many problems in injuries and still we had an opportunity. Really small margins, we could have scored the second goal in a debatable moment.

"We can be competitive and we showed in the FA Cup final against them when it was close but City is in this moment, don’t forget this; they are the best team in the world."

City outperformed the Devils to keep the chase on Liverpool as they remain 1 point behind them while Manchester United are sixth and eleven points off fourth-placed Aston Villa.

United would be aiming to get back to winning ways when they play Everton at home on Saturday while City has a difficult challenge against Liverpool on Sunday.
