Market women make u-turn, now accepting old notes in Alimosho

SOME market women in Alimosho have begun accepting the old #500 and #1000 notes as a means of exchange one week after the ruling of the Supreme Court.

Recall that Alimoshotoday had brought you news earlier this week that, even though banks had started issuing the old notes to customers, traders were rejecting the notes, insisting that they were waiting for a declaration by the President or the CBN Governor.

On Thursday, March 9, 2023, Alimoshotoday's correspondent visited some markets within the Igando-Ikotun LCDA and reports that traders were now accepting the notes.

At the Obadore market, a foodstuff seller said the reason he is accepting the notes is that he can still deposit it at the banks when he collects it and that most banks no longer dispense new notes.

However, some others still insist on the new notes. Their insistence provoked customers who questioned their actions, describing them as wicked and inconsiderate. The customers, on their part, chose instead to buy from those willing to accept the old notes.

Further, Garri sellers at the Igando market are still firm in their decision to accept cash only, as they still insist that the wholesalers would not accept mobile transfers.
