THE effect of the Naira redesign policy and conflicting information from the Supreme Court, Lagos State Government, and the Federal Government has taken a violent twist in Nigeria's most populated Local Government Area - Alimosho.

The protest occurred in the early hours of today, Friday, February 17, 2023, as residents were going out for their day's activities.

Commercial drivers with leaves in their hands and tied to their buses occupied the highway, driving at high speed, and warning commuters to go back home.

Alimoshotoday’s correspondent, who caught up with stranded commuters at the Igando-Iyana-iba road reports that buses that had already been occupied by commuters were forced to offload them.

In an interview with a man who says he was already prepared to go to work, he reports that what started as a protest had taken a new dimension.

"I came out this morning to go to work only to see people trekking. Buses were empty, but they were not carrying anybody. And those carrying people were forced to offload. As you can see, people are trekking even school children going to Iba. I am returning home now because I know that this will soon lead to killings,” the man said.

As of the time of filing this report, police officers were already on the ground to stop the protest, as drivers have equally barricaded the road.
