MANCHESTER United's new signing, Wout Weghorst, who joined the Red Devils from Burnley while on loan from Besiktas, has taken up the No.27 jersey which happens to be Alex Telles' number.
The jersey number is technically not available as it was worn by Alex Telles, but the Brazilian left-back is currently on loan at Sevilla and willingly allowed Weghorst to take up the number in his absence.
Speaking on the decision, he said “Of course, I looked into the ones that are free or available. Two and seven will make nine, of course – a striker’s number. I had a feeling with it.”
“Of course, when I came here, I heard about it was Alex’s number, he got loaned out now. I first had to ask him if that was okay, so I said that was, for me, important and then, in the end, there was no problem so thanks to him also. So yeah, I go for the 27 and actually it’s just because I had a good feeling with it,” the Dutchman added.
The 30-year-old striker is in contention to have his Manchester United debut when they face Crystal Palace today, Tuesday, January 17, 2023, and could also make the line-up when they take a trip to Emirate Stadium to face league leaders, Arsenal on Sunday, January 22, 2023.
