A statement released by the club read, "Real Madrid C. F. confirm that our player David Alaba has tested positive for COVID-19.”
Alaba who joined Real Madrid on a five-year deal this summer after running down his contract at Bayern Munich will have to self isolate despite the indication of whether the player has symptoms or is asymptomatic.
Last week, the Austria international’s new club team-mate, Karim Benzema, also tested positive for COVID-19 and missed the recent friendly against Rangers as a result of the virus.
Real Madrid is to play another international friendly hosting AC Milan on August 8, 2021.
