Peseiro defends Osimhen, blames poor performance on 'pressure'

Osimhen, who conveniently sits top of this season's goal-scoring charts with Napoli, could not add to his goal tally when he played against Guinea Bissau on Friday and Monday.

HEAD Coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria, Jose Peseiro, has defended Victor Osimhen after his poor display in the double leg against Guinea Bissau at the AFCON qualifier fixtures.

Victor Osimhen seems to be having no problems finding the back of the net at his club level in Napoli, with the player sitting top of this season's goal-scoring charts. Unfortunately, Osimhen could not add to his goal tally when he played against Guinea Bissau on Friday and Monday.

Speaking on the player's performance in a post-match interview, Peseiro stood up in defence of Osimhen as he said, “Victor is among the top scorers in Europe, but it happens.

"Sometimes the people complain about the players, it's not true they are not committed. The players come here and feel the pressure, they feel the stress.

"Osimhen came here to fight for our shirt, for the Super Eagles. Osimhen now feels the pressure more with our national team than in Napoli, it's not good."

Osimhen has five goals for the Super Eagles in the ongoing qualifiers, with 4 of those goals coming against Sao Tome in a 10-0 defeat at the beginning of the campaign.
