Lionel Messi has been confirmed to still be in Barcelona's group chat, despite his reported decision to leave the Catalans after being trashed 8-2 in a single leg quarter-final by Bayern Munich in July.

Lionel Messi,33, has been keeping away from the club, recently boycotting the mandatory COVI19-test as the new La-Liga season approaches.

As Messi insists he would no longer be a Barcelona player, his father and manager, Jorge Messi, has landed in Barcelona on Wednesday morning after flying in overnight from Rosario, Argentina. It comes amid multiple reports in Spanish and British media that Messi's father is set to meet with the club's board this week to discuss his son's future and an ongoing dispute. (CNN)

The dispute over his contract is due to a clause in Messi's deal that stated he could leave at the end of the season on a free transfer.

However, fellow Barcelona teammate, Frankie De Jong has revealed that Messi is still in the WhatsApp group for Barcelona players.

"Yes, Messi is still in the team's group chat," De Jong told Fox Sports. "I hope that Messi will return to the team, but it doesn't depend on me. I am not the person who should talk to Messi to convince him of anything. I'm sure lots of people have already approached him," De Jong concluded.
