Ikpeba blames Chelsea recruitment department over current ordeal

SPORTS pundit and Ex-Super Eagles of Nigeria star, Victor Ikpeba has blamed the owner and recruitment department of Chelsea for their current ordeal that has seen them sit 11th in the Premier League table.

The club has suffered from a poor run of form that also led to the sack of manager, Graham Potter, with the team having just 10 games left to the end of the season.

To add to their current woes, the Chelsea side also has a low probability of playing in the Champions League next season.

Ikpeba, who was African Player of the Year in 1997, blamed the club's administration for whatever bad experience they are facing.

"I think the Chelsea owners and recruitment department must take responsibility for what is happening at Chelsea.

"Sacking a manager nine or ten games to the end of the season won't solve this problem. They should have kept faith with Potter until the end of the season and say: 'you have done your best bye bye.'

"Time will tell. Whoever takes over - will he get the best out of the players? The new Chelsea manager might come in and start getting the results. So it's unfortunate for Potter," Ikpeba said.

As it stands, Chelsea will have to play the remaining game of the season with an interim manager, with a match against Liverpool later today.
