ALIMOSHO #ENDSWAT protesters, on Wednesday, caused a gridlock on some major roads of Iyana Ipaja, Egbeda and Abule Egba areas of Lagos State.

This is just as they protested against police brutality, the recently disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) and also the newly-formed Special Weapons and Tactics Unit (SWAT).

Recall that AlimoshoToday had earlier reported previous protests which was channeled towards ending police brutality and the alleged illegal operations of the SARS.

Also recall that in response to the three-day protests that held last week from October 7-9, 2020, the Inspector General of Police had announced that the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Nigeria Police Force had been dissolved.

However, in a related development, the IGP also announced the creation of a new team, Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) which is to replace SARS.

The peaceful protest, which started around 8am with a walk from Gate Bus-Stop to Iyana Ipaja and then a another walk around the Iyana Ipaja Market, ended with the protesters blocking a part of the Iyana Ipaja Road leading inwards Egbeda, Iyana Iba, Ayobo axis from 3pm to 5pm.

The protesters also had placards with different inscriptions like '"EndSars", "ENDSWAT", "Increase Police Salary so that they can stop killing us", I am a foreign Doctor and I am here for my 2 doctor friends SARS killed" among several others.

On why they are still embarking on the protest even after the Federal Government had disbanded SARS, a protester told AlimoshoToday that "the government is not being truthful."

"They said they have ended SARS, we know they are lying. They only changed them from one name to another. We don't even want SWAT or SARS, they should scrap everything."

Another protester claimed, too, that it was SARS that shot him in the leg, making him lose one of his legs.
