THE Executive Chairman of the Mosan-Okunola LCDA, Hon. (Princess) Olabisi Adebajo, on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, took delivery of the newly renovated part of the Akinyele PHC for the use of Tuberculosis Directly Observed Treatment Short-Course (TB/DOTS) Centre.
Recall that in 2022, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) accepted a contribution from a leading Nigeria philanthropic organisation, Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASR Africa), to partner on Tuberculosis (TB) control and gender-based violence (GBV) prevention efforts in Nigeria.
Akinyele Primary Health Centre was selected for the renovation and installation of a TB LAMP machine under the Abdul Samad Rabiu (ASR) Initiative to address the issue of sub-optimal care and the dilapidated nature of its DOTS Centre. Since its renovation and installation, there has been some improvement in patient attendance in the facility, while the turn-around time for the evaluation of samples from the facility and community has improved from over 72 hours to within 24 hours.
During the commissioning, Hon. Adebajo expressed her appreciation to the Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative for bringing the project to Mosan-Okunola and for the benefit of the people.
She assured the ASR Initiative that the Local Government will take ownership of the facility and provide every support to keep the centre functional.
"We will take ownership of the facility, and there will be advocacy within our Local Government that we have TB screening equipment here and competent doctors for proper treatment," she added.
Meanwhile, a free medical outreach kicked off on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at the Akinyele PHC while the commissioning and handing over was ongoing.
The handing over ceremony had in attendance representatives of Lagos State Primary Healthcare Board; Director Public Health, Federal Ministry of Health; Director PHC, National Primary Health Care Development Agency; USAID/Nigeria Mission Director; MD ASR Dr Ubom Udoh; and APC Chieftains in Mosan-Okunola.
Others include Mosan-Okunola Vice-Chairman, Hon. Dayo Osinowo; legislative members led by their Leader, Hon. Olasunkanmi Adefioye; Supervisory Councillors led by the Secretary to the local council, Hon. Ayo Orimolade; traditional rulers, religious leaders; and CDC executives.
