A 23-year-old lady identified as Itunu Adepoju has been arrested by the Oyo State Command of the Nigeria Police Force for allegedly stealing the 3-day-old baby of another woman.

According to media reports, the spokesperson of the command, SP Adewale Osifeso made this known in a statement, wherein he said the suspect, who originally stays in Lagos, carried out the act in Oyo State, after suffering a stillbirth.

The Police Spokesperson said the mother of the baby, Monsurat Lateef who was delivered of a baby on Saturday, July 16, 2022, was approached by Itunu whom she met at the hospital when she (Monsurat) went to the Abaemu General Hospital, Ona-Ora to initiate immunisation proceedings for her newly-born child.

Itunu, who became friendly with Monsurat, then explained to her that she had just come in from Lagos to Oyo and was in search of a house, unknown to Monsurat that she had just suffered from a stillbirth.

Monsurat driven by sympathy decided to oblige the total stranger by assisting her with the house search which later encroached late into the evening, leading Monsurat to allow the suspect to pass the night in her house.

Notwithstanding, the next day, Monsurat who had become familiar with the suspect allowed her to go withdraw cash from a POS terminal, with her baby strapped to the woman’s back, but she later realised after a while, that the suspect (Itunu) had in the process, made away with her child.

Luck however ran out of the suspect when she was apprehended, and the police have promised to charge her to court upon completion of Investigations into the case.
