Pandemonium as gas explosion rocks Lagos

NO fewer than three persons have reportedly died in a gas explosion at Abule Pan, Lekki-Epe Expressway, in the Ibeju Lekki Local Government Area of Lagos State.

According to media reports, the incident happened recently as a 50kg Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) cylinder exploded at the frontage of a row of shops in the area.

Confirming the incident in a statement, Margaret Adeseye, the Director/CEO of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services, said the explosion involved an LNG (industrial gas) cylinder of about 50kg assembled at the frontage of a row of shops.9514

She added that a loud bang was heard in the area with balls of fire enveloping the atmosphere, leading to pandemonium in the area when the gas explosion occurred.

Adeseye said the Lekki Phase II Fire Station of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services complemented by Health Environment officials, military officials, Federal Road Safety Corps officials, and Ibeju Lekki Local Government joined hands to combat the inferno.9513

“It is an explosion involving an LNG (industrial gas) cylinder of about 50kg assembled at the frontage of a row of shops. LNG cylinders of about 50kg exploded.

“Lekki Phase II Fire Station of LSFRS complemented by Health Environment officials, Military Officials, FRSC Officials, Ibeju Lekki Loca Government. Mishandling of Gas cylinder leading to the explosion. Three bodies were recovered dead and one injured,” she noted.
