IN fulfilment of the promise of the Executive Chairman of the Igando-Ikotun LCDA, Comrade Akinsanya Lasisi Ayinde, during his campaign to facilitate the construction of drainages in White Sand Estate, in the Isheri-Oshun area of the LCDA, the Lagos State Government has commenced major drainage channels and canals in the area.
Speaking during his inspection tour, the Special Adviser on Drainage and Water Resources, Engineer Joe Igbokwe said the construction of drainage channels will put the State in good stead to prevent flooding in the area.
Igbokwe, alongside Akinsanya, was accompanied on the tour by the APC House of Representatives Candidate for Alimosho Federal Constituency, Barrister Ganiyu Adele Ayuba, and the Executive Vice-Chairman of the LCDA, Hon. Mojisola Ayinke Badmus.
During the tour, Akinsanya warned those who have erected structures on the setbacks and alignments of the channels being dredged to remove them or have them removed for better development of the area.
The Special Adviser, on his part, maintained that the ultimate goal of the drainage channels is to allow easy passage of rainstorm water, adding that the Government will soon look into the possibility of building retention ponds across the State.
He affirmed that the present administration had resolved to find lasting solutions to the issue of flooding as part of the efforts to contain its occurrence this year 2023, maintaining that the State Government will be more forceful in its campaign against dumping of refuse in canals and drains, as well as the erection of building on canals, drainage channels, and watercourses.
