AN elderly couple, Baba and Mama Merunso of New World Street, Ijegun, in the Igando-Ikotun LCDA of Alimosho LGA were on the ground early on Saturday, March 18, 2023, to cast their votes for their preferred candidates.

According to a Facebook post by Muyiwa Akinwumi, a digital content creator, Baba Folorunsho Merunso a retired soldier came alone to Polling Unit 080 as early as 7:30 am and waited patiently till around 9:30 am when the INEC officials arrived.

Due to his age and state of health, Baba was quickly attended to.

According to Muyiwa's post, "Not done, Baba approached me and passionately requested that his wife of over forty years was home and will love to cast her vote also but she's incapacitated as she could not walk well. 'Can you help me with a vehicle?' he asked with a voice that showed great determination.

"Being one part of a strong Community-based support group who have made available vehicle for conveying people from far distance to their various polling units in the community, I quickly arranged for a Maruwa Driver to take Baba to his house to bring his ailing wife."

She later cast her votes at the 096 Polling Unit located within the Ijegun Primary School Compound. The elated couple prayed for the victory of Governor Sanwo-Olu and Hon. Kehinde Joseph, the Governorship and House of Assembly (Alimosho 02) candidates respectively.

They said they went through this stress to give their support to the APC administration that, according to them, is performing creditably in Lagos State.

They equally begged the Governor and all other government officials in Lagos State and the Local Government to always consider the plights of old people, women, and youth in their administration.
