THE General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Mr Bolaji Oreagba has warned tanker owners and drivers to always ensure that their trucks are properly checked and in good condition before embarking on any journey.

This caution is coming after a fully-loaded container truck crushed a Keke Marwa at Ikotun, in the Igando-Ikotun LCDA of Alimosho LGA on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, killing two persons in the process.

ICYMI: IKOTUN TANKER ACCIDENT: TRAGEDY AS TWO DIE, TWO PREGNANT WOMEN, OTHERS RESCUED

Also involved in the accident were two pregnant women and two children who were rescued alive by LASTMA operatives and taken to the hospital by officers of the Ikotun Police Division for treatment.

Speaking in a press statement released on Tuesday, January 31, Mr Oreagba said a preliminary investigation revealed that the fully loaded container truck (JJJ 125) had a brake failure and crushed three tricycles by a valley around the Synagogue church when going towards Ikotun.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) immediately moved the tanker with the crushed tricycles to the Ikotun Police Station.

This incident has sparked renewed calls by residents that tankers should desist from plying the roads during the day as there is an increase in human and vehicular movement at such times.
