DR Olawunmi Oni-Buraimoh, a lecturer at the Lagos State University and one of the facilitators of the just held Alimosho Tomorrow Leaders Conference, has charged students to endeavour to build a great legacy today as this would form the bedrock of their successes in the future.

Dr Oni-Buraimoh gave the charge while speaking as a facilitator at the maiden edition of the Alimosho Tomorrow Leaders Conference, which was held on Friday, September 23, 2022, at the Lagos Theatre, Igando and organized by AlimoshoToday.com, the foremost news website of the Alimosho community.

Oni-Buraimoh, while on stage, said that a lot of people in making others proud go against their dreams, goals and virtues in life, which in turn, deprives them of joy in the work they do.

While acknowledging that people matter in life when decisions are to be made, she encouraged the students to first look inward to see if that is what they really want. According to her, whatever decisions that are made by them or made for them by other people will go a long way in shaping their lives.

The English lecturer admonished the students to stand by virtue or character that they can be identified with. According to her, if one does not stand for something, he falls for anything.

“You must identify who you are. You must stand for something, and begin to picture yourself. Ask yourself; where do you want to be? How do you want people to look at you? What is that thing that you want to be known for? What do you want people to associate you with? Now is the appointed time to stand on the right path,” she said.

Dr Oni-Buraimoh, who is also a TV presenter and actress, shared her experience early in life when she failed the WAEC Examination and had to re-sit because she followed the crowd and ventured into an area of study she knew she was not good at. She also enjoined the students to carve a niche for themselves, and not to engage in anything just because they see others doing it.

The seasoned teacher also called on the students to work hard to achieve success, and not form the habit of lying and cheating. Applying this principle she says will condition a greater sense of satisfaction and fulfillment.

“Honesty is the best policy. Do not trade it for anything. Hard work pays. Work so hard that you will be satisfied you did your best. Be appreciative of people who help you on your life’s journey, and be responsible enough to own up when you make mistakes. You can be proud of yourself and take pride in what you do, but do not be arrogant. Be content in your ability. Strive to be the best of yourself,” she exhorted.

The maiden Alimosho Tomorrow Leaders Conference organised by Alimoshotoday.com tagged 'Walking the Pathway to Lifetime Success’ brought together 375 senior secondary school students from 26 private and public schools in the Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State.
