AFROBEAT singer, Seun Kuti, has been arrested for assault and is currently in police custody at the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, SCIID, in Panti for further investigation.
A video of the popular music artiste went viral on the internet after he was seen slapping a policeman, which immediately led to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, ordering the arrest of Kuti.
A tweet by the Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, confirmed that the artiste has been arrested while terming his actions criminal and evil.
He wrote: “Assault: Seun Kuti is under interrogation at the State CID Panti. We speak and act against attacks and assaults on Police officers, it’s evil and criminal”.
Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, AAC, also confirmed the arrest saying, ”After visiting the @PoliceNG Commissioner in Lagos earlier today, @realseunkuti was arrested, handcuffed, and taken to SCIID in Panti by @PoliceNG officers apparently for further investigations and possible detention over his altercation with a police officer on the 3rd mainland bridge.
"@RealSeunKuti fulfilled his promise to cooperate fully with police investigations and accordingly visited the Commissioner in Lagos with his lawyers.”
