Police arraigns two men for stealing items worth 2million Naira from Egbeda school

TWO men, who allegedly burgled a school store and stole two air conditioners and aluminium profiles valued at N2 million, appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, October 20, 2022.

According to media reports, the defendants, Jiga Mohammed, 28, a security guard and Uche Nwankpa, 30, a driver who resides in Egbeda, Lagos, are being tried for conspiracy and stealing.

The Prosecutor, Insp Innocent Odugbo, told the court that the offences were committed on September 4, 2022, at Eduland School, Bakery bus stop, Egbeda, Lagos, adding that the defendants were working with the school.

He also added that the management discovered that the school store was broken and that two air conditioners had been stolen. The prosecutor also said that the defendants stole aluminium profiles and iron rods, all valued at #2 million, from the school.

“The first defendant, who is the security man, could not account for the stolen items and it was later discovered that he and the second defendant conspired to steal the items,” Odugbo said.

The offences, according to Odugbo, contravene Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015. The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against them.

The Magistrate, Mrs M.F. Onamusi, granted the defendants bail in the sum of #500,000 each, with two sureties each in like sum, and thereafter adjourned the case till November 30, 2022, for mention.
