Thankfully, there were no casulties, as no one was present at the spot of the accident.

Eyewitness reports claimed that the driver of the truck was trying to overtake a car on the road, even though he was aware that the road was narrow, and could not accommodate more than one car at a time.

Narrating the incident, an eyewitness told AlimoshoToday:

"He was trying to overtake a car. His problem was that he couldn't wait for the small car to pass its own lane. Two cars cannot pass at the same time talkless of one trailer and one car. He did not want the small car to drive past him.

"Though the front has passed, the back tyre now entered the gutter. The tail of the trailer hooked the gutter, and he now stopped in front of the row of shops.

"He is now lying that it was his brake that failed. He should just thank his stars that he is not a young guy. If not, they would have beaten him mercilessly."

In response to if the driver was on high speed, the eyewitness replied in the affirmative saying, "Yes na, he was on high speed. He wanted to overtake the small car. He doesn't want to allow it to pass through."

Another woman added, "how many minutes patience does he need? See the damage he has caused."

Speaking with AlimoshoToday, a shop owner identified as Joy, who was said to have narrowly missed being hit by the truck said in pidgin:

"We were at alert. We dey see him with two eyes like this. When we see that he don comot from road, he wan enter gutter, we don dey stand up."

Others present at the scene claimed the driver was drunk, hence his action.

Guys within the neighbourhood said the truck driver would have been lynched if any life had been lost during the incident.

At the time of filing this report, AlimoshoToday saw two LASTMA officials at the scene. While one was trying to control the road traffic to avoid congestion, the other was supervising the lifting of the truck from the ditch.
