Court remands car seller for attempted murder of client in Egbeda

The suspect convinced the complainant to pay N2.7m for a Lexus Car, but when it was time to deliver, he resorted to threatening his client.

A 28-year-old car dealer, Akinsanmi Olayinka Samuel, has landed in trouble over alleged attempts to eliminate his client, Olatinlade Ayodeji, who paid him N2.7m for a Lexus ES350 car, and he swindled him in the process. 

P.M. Express reports that the incident happened at Egbeda, in the Egbeda-Akowonjo LCDA of Alimosho LGA. The car dealer has been arrested and charged with conspiracy, obtaining under false pretence, and threat to life.

According to the Police, the suspect convinced the complainant that he had the car and asked him to pay the money for him to supply him with the car between August 5 and September 4, 2022, and he paid the money into his account.

However, when the date they agreed for the car dealer to supply the vehicle reached, Samuel started giving flimsy excuses and was alleged to have threatened the complainant with violence to eliminate him.

The matter was reported to the Police at Area M Command, Idimu, in the Egbe-Idimu LCDA of Alimosho LGA, who then arrested Samuel and detained him for interrogation over the allegations of criminal liability of fraud and threat to life.

After thoroughly interrogating the suspect, the police found him culpable and subsequently charged him before the Ejigbo Magistrates Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.

However, he pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned.

The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, then asked the court to give a date for a hearing to enable the police to prove that he committed the alleged offence.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs A.K Dosumu, granted him bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of a means of livelihood and tax payment with addresses verified.

The matter was adjourned till May 17, 2023, for mention, while the defendant was remanded in custody at the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos State, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
