Egbe-Idimu residents groan as flood ravages their communities

RESIDENTS and business operators in the Egbe-Idimu Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Alimosho Local Government Area (LGA) have expressed continuous unease and despair as flood ravages their community because of the poor drainage system.

 RESIDENTS and business operators in the Egbe-Idimu Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Alimosho Local Government Area (LGA) have expressed continuous unease and despair as flood ravages their community because of the poor drainage system they have there .

Areas with persistent flood issues include the Mojogun Compound, Oke-Idimu, Ogunjimi Close, Off Oba's Palace, Idimu Road inwards Orisunbare and Ejigbo Roads.

According to the agonised residents the persistent flooding and poor drainage system has led to infrastructural damage, loss of property, fractures, death and sorrow. 

Mr Olushi Afeez, who spoke with AlimoshoToday in Yoruba language, said: "When it rains, the flood enters our houses here with the rubbish it brings from other streets.

"Women and children often scamper for safety and scramble to save their property from being carried away," Afeez narrated.

 

A woman who resides and trades in the area, identified as Iya Ibeji, who also spoke in Yoruba said: "Everywhere here is always flooded as if one is at a riverbank. The rain often encroaches us here and enters my house. It also enters my shop here with heaps of rubbish coming from the third street. Passersby always have to fold up their trousers as the water reaches their thighs.

Another trader, Iya Chinonso said: "The flood is too much and is affecting. us. We are pleading to the government to come to our aid."
