Online classes entertain distractions, but it’s effective – Alimosho students

Students within Alimosho local government confided in AlimoshoToday that online classes are really effective, but it entertains a lot of distractions.

STUDENTS resident in Alimosho Local Government have confided in AlimoshoToday that online classes are really effective, but entertains a lot of distractions.

Since the imposed Covid-19 lockdown, virtual classes have been the ‘new normal’ for most students in Lagos state.

However, its effectiveness has been questioned because students are accustomed to the regular classroom and some infrastructural deficit in the nation alters the virtual lecture experience.

While speaking with AlimoshoToday, a student identified as Ade said: "Online lectures were very effective and it was okay. I was able to do other things while studying and I enjoyed the comfort of my bedroom (smiling)."

Nene equally agreed, saying, "it was cool staying at home. I attended most online lectures.

“There were distractions from my sister and my family generally, but the online classes were effective.”

A student named Michael noted that, “online class is different from the regular classes

“It’s not easy for the teachers because physical interaction is better. Costs of data, power failures and other challenges are there.”

Kehinde also commented that, “we have to wake up really early to meet up for online lectures. The online lecture was very effective.

Speaking with AlimoshoToday, the proprietor of Doregos Private Academy, Mr Kehinde Adegbulugbe, equally agreed that online classes are effective but he noted a few differences:

“While in school, they have direct contact with the teachers but at home, it’s not really direct contact. We use Zoom, Google Hangout and WhatsApp platform.

“The online classes cannot be entirely compared with the school setting because practical classes cannot be conducted. We can only teach the theory. The practical aspects of the online classes had to be suspended until the students resume school, ” he concluded.
