Police arrest ex-convict for stealing generators in Ojota

Police arrest ex-convict for stealing generators

OFFICIALS of the Rapid Response Squad have arrested an ex-convict, Yekini Opeyemi, 35, for stealing two generators around the Odo-Iya Alaro, Ojota area of Lagos State.

According to media reports, Opeyemi, who was reportedly working as a guard at Ojota New Garage, was nabbed while trying to load two generator sets into a Volkswagen Golf car.

Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Police Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed that incident in a statement on Wednesday, September 14, 2022, added that the driver, on sighting police officers sped off, leaving Yekini behind.

The PPRO added, “The suspect, Yekini Opeyemi, 35, was arrested around 4.00 am, near Odo-Iya Alaro, Ojota in the company of others now at large, trying to load one Firman and one Tigmax generator, 2.8 KVA each, into a Volkswagen Golf car. The driver on sighting the police officers sped off, leaving Yekini behind.

 “Investigation revealed that Yekini, who arrived in Lagos last week, was employed as a security guard at Ojota New Garage. When accosted, Yekini, who has been imprisoned on four different occasions over separate incidents, could not give any satisfactory explanation about the generators.”

The state Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alabi, while commending CSP Yinka Egbeyemi, the Commander of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), directed the case to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba, for further investigation and prosecution.
