AN Ikeja Special Offences Court has sentenced popular Nollywood actor, Mr Olanrewaju James (Baba Ijesha) to 16 years in prison for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old minor.
The judgment was delivered on Thursday, July 14, 2022, by Judge Oluwatoyin Taiwo, in a two-hour judgment where Baba Ijesha was convicted of indecent treatment of a child, sexual assault, and attempted sexual assault.
He was found guilty of four out of six offences out of which two charges attract five years while the remaining two attract three years.
His 16-year jail term will run concurrently. This means that the movie actor will spend only five years in jail.
Mrs Taiwo, however, discharged and acquitted him of counts one and six, which were; sexual assault by penetration and attempted sexual assault by penetration.
Baba Ijesha was found guilty of indecent treatment and sexual assault of a minor between 2013 and 2014.
The court said the prosecution successfully proved counts two and four; that he indecently placed her on his lap and rubbed his penis on her body.
He was accused of again indecently touching the same minor and sexually assaulting her seven years later by rubbing her body and sucking her fingers.
It should be noted that Baba Ijesha’s rape trial lasted over 12 months since his arrest and arraignment in June 2021.
