THE enforcement officers of the National Agency For Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) in collaboration with the Nigerian Army’s 15 Field Engineering Regiment in Badagry, have raided the operations of an illegal alcohol manufacturer, identified as Mr Chinedu Okafor, operating from his residence at No. 24, MTN Road, Badagry, Lagos State.
According to media reports, the Agency, revealing in a post on its official X handle on Thursday, May 9, 2024, confirmed that the discovery of the illegal activity and arrest of the suspect is in a bid to rid the nation of counterfeit drinks.
“Mr Okafor’s suspicious activities caught the attention of the Nigerian Army, leading to his arrest and subsequent handover to NAFDAC officers at the Ports Inspection Directorate, Seme Border.
“Upon inspection, officers evacuated all equipment and materials used in the production of illicit drinks, effectively shutting down the illegal factory,” NAFDAC said.
The Agency noted that investigations revealed Okafor’s longstanding involvement in criminal activity, which has potentially compromised regulated alcohol drinks in the Badagry area.
Meanwhile, the Agency added that Okafor will face prosecution, and all fake products valued at over ₦50,000,000 will be destroyed.
Hence, NAFDAC emphasised the need for public vigilance and urged citizens to report suspicious activities to safeguard public health.
