The International Day of the Girl Child is a day set aside by the United Nations (UN) to recognise girls' rights and the unique challenges they face all over the world.

Felicia Okachi, a pupil of De-Vasco Children's School in Alimosho, said: "I hear stories of little girls being raped all the time and it makes me sad."

Felicia said she wants to become a fashion designer in future.

Miss Okachi said she wants the government "to protect the girl child by making laws that would punish sex offenders."

Another girl from the same school, Bolatito Kolade, said: "Girls are not treated the same way as boys. Boys are always preferred to girls at home and in school."

Bolatito said she would like to become a nurse in future in order to save lives.

Fikayo Kagbure said she wants to be a teacher in future. She said she admires teachers a lot.

Fidelia Okachie, who dreams of becoming a police officer in the future, said she believes a woman would one day rise to become a President of this country.
