The Executive Chairman of the Lagos State Universal Basic Education (LASUBEB), Honourable Wahab Alawiye-King, has been encouraging and sensitising parents to register their children for the free mandatory basic education in the State.
In line with the Universal Basic Education Act of 2004 and the State Universal Basic Education Law 2006, which guarantees access to 9-year formal education by providing free and compulsory basic education for every child of school-going age, LASUBEB has since commenced registration for entrants into the Early Childhood Care and Development Education (ECCDE) as well as Primary One Pupils across all Public Primary Schools in the State.
While performing a symbolic registration of entrants at the St. Agnes Primary School, Maryland, Alawiye-King stated that it is mandatory for the Board to ensure that every child in the State has access to free basic education.
Hence the exercise was to sensitise the public on the ongoing registration and to guarantee a seamless process.
He explained that the yearly routine is part of the Board's plan for school re-opening and preparation for a new session.
He noted that the registration is free and compulsory, adding that education is relevant to the culture and every other aspect of human development.
He urged parents/guardians to register their wards in earnest and take advantage of the registration window which will be on till October 23, 2020.
