The social distancing and face masks usage protocol is being continually flouted by residents of Alimosho Local Government.

This is despite the increasing cases of COVID-19 in the country.

Recall that part of preventive measures given by the government to check the spread of Covid-19 include social distancing, washing of hands and the use of sanitisers amongst others.

However, when AlimoshoToday went round Egbeda and Mosan Okunola Local Council Development Area, the reverse was the case as people were seen walking about without wearing facemasks.

Apart from the supermarts and eateries, most local shops visited had no sanitiser dispensers or hand wash basins for the customers to wash their hands.

A resident, Linda (surname not disclosed) told AlimoshoToday: "I have my facemasks, it is in my bag. I cannot be wearing it everywhere.

"When I want to take a bus to where I am going, I will wear it."

When AlimoshoToday boarded a bus routing the LASU- Iyana Iba Road, social distancing rule was not observed, as the bus drivers have reverted to having the usual four passengers per seat and two in front.

This, however, has not led to a reduction in bus fares.

When our correspondent went to Jakande Estate motor park, it was observed that bus drivers comply with the social distancing rule as KEKE Marwa, tricycle operators allow only two passengers with no passenger seated in front while the Minibus also allows two per seat and one in front.

However, opposite Abesan Estate gate, for commuters boarding a bus by the roadside rather than the bus park, it is usually four on a seat.

When AlimoshoToday, under the guise of being a passenger, conversed with drivers on why they are conveying four passengers instead of three, most of them attributed it to the increase in the price of fuel while one Mr Rotimi and another driver, who did not disclose his name, said the coronavirus pandemic is no more in existence.

A commuter also said " it is lack of choice that makes me board these vehicles.

"Sometimes, they will carry three people from the park, only for us to start going and they start carrying more passengers.

"When you complain, you get threatened to come down from their vehicle."
