Sanwo-Olu acquires high-speed trains from Milwaukee, USA for Lagos

The high-speed trains will run on the state's metro Red and Blue railway lines which will improve transportation within the city.

GOVERNOR Babajide Sanwo-Olu has announced the purchase of two high-speed trains for Lagos State's Red Line Metro project on Wednesday, January 19, 2022.

The governor disclosed this in a post on his social media pages on Wednesday afternoon. 

"Today, I inspected our newly acquired Talgo 330kmph speed trains for our Red Line Metro project in Lagos. 

The 37km Red Line on completion will traverse eight stations and move passengers from Agbado to Oyingbo. 

We have completed the acquisition of the two high-speed trains and we are ramping up completion of the ancillary infrastructure like the train stations. 

We are irrevocably committed to completing the Red Line rail project by the end of this year and bring a new lease of life to public transportation in Lagos.

These trains were purchased from the United States state of Milwaukee. The mayor of Milwaukee, Cavalier Johnson, welcomed Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu when he arrived Milwaukee to personally inspect the train coaches on Tuesday, January 18. Present at this factory tour were Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Federic Oladeinde; President & CEO, Talgo Incorporated USA, Antonio Perez; Managing Director, Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), Engr. (Mrs) Abimbola Akinajo. 

The two sets of brand new Talgo 10-car Metro trains for the Lagos Rail project will run on the 37-kilometre rail from Agbado, in the Agbado Oke-Odo area, to Oyingbo.
