According to him; “Writing is a beautiful thing, thoughts are expressed through writing. Writing is hard work and it can be likened to a skill; it can be a talent or it can be learnt.”

He also enlightened the attendees on how to write impact driven stories by informing them that the starting point of making an impact in society is to know why God created you.

Mr Lawrence then went on to discuss the business side of writing by sharing with the empowerment beneficiaries that they can make money from writing through ghostwriting, writing blog content, where they can share touching stories and experiences.

The empowerment programme also featured bleach and scouring powder production which was facilitated by Mrs Omolara Lawrence who reiterated that chemicals must not be handled with bare hands or allowed to touch the skin or inhaled as they are hazardous to one’s health.

She mentioned that you must be outfitted in a headcover, lab coat/overalls, mask, and gloves when handling chemicals. She also said chemicals must be labelled for easy identification.

Mrs Lawrence also listed the basic materials needed for bleach production, which she said include; water, chlorine, soda ash, caustic soda, and sulphite.

During the second phase of the empowerment programme, Mr Lawrence educated the art of public speaking; he defined public speaking as the art of speaking to people appropriately. He then averred that public speaking could be informative, persuasive, or ceremonial as the case may be.

He claimed that fear, timidness, and shyness are roadblocks to self-confidence in public speaking which could be overcome by the 3Ps which are; prayer, preparation, and practice.

He also highlighted some tips on to effectively close a talk, these tips are; summarize your main points, challenge your action, appeal for action, or give a thought-provoking quote.

Mrs Lawrence then educated the beneficiaries on air freshener production, adding that the basic materials for air freshener production include; Texapon, perfume, methanol, camphor, colour, menthol, and catalyst. Watch the production process here.

The final segment of the empowerment saw Mr Lawrence educating the audience on packaging and branding, according to him, “A brand is what distinguishes one product from another in the eyes of the customer. It embraces logo, colour, quality, pricing, images, and other important elements. Packaging is the strategy that helps to display your brand’s mark and name. it is the physical appearance of a product, while labelling is the informative component of packaging such as the name of product, ingredients, and so on.”

He, however, stressed that it is important you trademark your product name to avoid future lawsuits from competitors.1007
