Umar Sadiq pulls out of AFCON23 due to  knee injury

THE Super Eagles won't be able to count on the service of Umar Sadiq at the 2023 AFCON after the striker pulled out of the tournament due to a knee injury he suffered during training at the camp.

The Real Sociedad striker has pulled out of the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast after suffering an injury in training, and will now return to Spain to recover with Real Sociedad’s medical team overseeing his recovery.

Jose Peseiro has moved swiftly to counter the issue by calling up 6ft 8 striker, Paul Onuachu to replace Umar Sadiq ahead of the biennial tournament that will start tomorrow in Ivory Coast.

As it stands, Victor Osimhen will be the only available striker for the Eagles' first game on Sunday as Terem Moffi, Kelechi Iheanacho, and the newly invited Paul Onuachu will not be available for selection against Equatorial Guinea.

Recall that Victor Boniface also picked up an injury as Terem Moffi replaced him; Wilfred Ndidi will also not be in the tournament, with Alhassan Yusuf called upon to replace the midfield maestro.
