VICE-captain of the Super Eagles of Nigeria, William Troost-Ekong, has made it known that he is open to the idea of Jose Peseiro remaining in charge of the Super Eagles.

Jose Peseiro's contract with NFF ended after the 2023 AFCON finals as decisions are ongoing on whether a new contract should be offered to the tactician or if they should hire someone else ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Ekong, who captained the Eagles team throughout the AFCON tournament in Ivory Coast, claims that he and the rest of the team would be happy if the 63-year-old remains head coach.

“I think the players are happy with him. Reaching the final is something significant and also something we can build on,” Troost-Ekong said in an exclusive interview with CNN World Sports Amanda Davies.

“However, on what he had in mind, I did try to ask him before we left, and he said he’s going to call me back. I think I’m just as much in the dark as you guys are, but I think all the players would be happy to see him back.”

While the NFF is burdened with deciding before the 2026 World Cup qualifiers fixtures against South Africa and Benin, Algeria are interested in bringing Peseiro to their side.
