HEAD Coach of the Cote D’Ivoire senior men's football team, Jean-Louis Gasset has claimed that the Super Eagles of Nigeria are not as good as they used to be.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria draw the AFCON23 host’ Cote D’Ivoire in Group A of the forthcoming tournament, which also puts Equatorial Guinea and Guinea-Bissau in the same group.
Les Elephants and the Super Eagles will face off in the second game of the Group stage at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Gasset acknowledged that Super Eagles will be a tough game but the Eagles, as well as the Elephants, are not as good as they used to be.
“Unfortunately, we are to meet Nigeria in our second game, I would have loved it to be the last. They say the Elephants are no longer as great as they were; I see the same for Nigeria, too,” Gasset told ACLSports.
“Back in the day, the Super Eagles were phenomenal, but things have changed. However, they remain a solid side and could destroy any team in the competition, so you have to be careful,” he added.
The hosts will kick-start the competition against the Djurtus of Guinea-Bissau while the Super Eagles' first game is against Equatorial Guinea.
