SUPER Eagles of Nigeria’s Head Coach, Jose Peseiro, has explained his decision on why he invited Nathan Tella for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Zimbabwe.
Tella, who is eligible to play for the Three Lions of England, stepped back and instead picked the Super Eagles of Nigeria and is set to represent the country at the 2026 World Cup qualifier.
The 24-year-old, who plays for Bayern Leverkusen, is an Arsenal trainee who spent the 2022/23 campaign on loan at Burnley from Southampton and was named in the Team of the Season.
Speaking on his decision to include Tella in the national team, Peseiro said: “I know the players, only one new player came, Nathan, because sometimes I can check some players that in our eyes are doing well.
“The others know our organization, our leadership, and I think it’s going to be a good match.”
Tella scored his maiden goal for Die Werkself in the 4-0 victory against Union Berlin last weekend.
