NIGERIA goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali has defended striker, Victor Osimhen amid his goal drought at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations taking place in Ivory Coast.

The striker's performance has been criticised by football fans who expect the striker, who recorded  31 goals in 39 appearances for his club in 2023, to replicate a similar performance at the AFCON tournament.

Nwabili, who is having a good time at the AFCON tournament, keeping two clean sheets out of three, has come out to defend the striker.

“I mean, come on, the striker scored a goal. He brought us back against Equatorial Guinea, and we could have won the game.

“The best striker in Africa, one of the best in the world, scored in one game and lifted the team. And how many goals has Sadio Mane scored?"

Osimhen could add to his tally of goals as the Super Eagles have qualified for the Round of 16 after picking seven points out of a possible nine in the Group stage.
