ACCORDING to Prosecutors, Valbuena received a first call threatening to expose the sex tape in early June, 2015, in Paris, France.
The caller had said he wanted to "come to an arrangement" with Valbuena.
Prosecutors alleged that Benzema was recruited by the blackmailers to convince his team-mate to pay up and are now accusing him of complicity to attempted blackmail.
Both players were suspended from the international team in 2015, but Benzema was called back into the team for 2021 European Championship.
With the trial back in full gear, the 33 year old could face up to a five year jail term and a 75,000 euro (£63,300) fine if convicted.
