Jordi Alba set to part ways with Barcelona

SPANISH left-back Jordi Alba will no longer be a Barcelona player at the end of the season, despite still having a year left on his contract.

The 34-year-old player has a contract that runs until 2024, but it appears that both player and club have now come to an agreement that will see him leave at the end of the season as a free agent.

It is rumoured and reported that this is part of Barcelona's plan to free up some cash for the possible return of seven-time Ballon d'Or and World Cup winner Lionel Messi, who is expected to leave Paris Saint-German at the end of the season.

Jordi Alba is a product of Barcelona’s La Masia Academy. Alba left the club at a young age before returning in 2012 after stints at Cornelia and Valencia. He later returned to the Catalans, spending 11 years at the club.

The defender, who made over 450 appearances, while also winning six La Liga titles and one UEFA Champions League trophy, lost his starting spot to Alejandro Balde throughout the 2022/23 campaign, sending a message that his service would no longer be needed at the club under the leadership of Xavi Hernandez.
