SUPER Eagles shot-stopper, Stanley Nwabali, who was emotional after the 2-1 loss in the AFCON final to Ivory Coast, has tendered an apology to fans for disappointing them.

The Eagles got the lead in the first half through a William Troost-Ekong header but was not enough as Ivorian dug deep to find an equalizer through Franck Kessie and then a winner through Sebastien Haller.

Nwabali, who made a series of saves in the finals, was in tears as he watched the Ivorian walk away with the win and the AFCON trophy.

“A disappointing and frustrating end,” Nwabali stated in a post moments after the heartbreak on his Instagram account.

"I deeply apologize to Nigerians. I was once a fan, still a fan and I understand how it feels giving you a disappointing night," the goalkeeper said.

Despite the loss, Nwabali proved himself to be one of the best players in the tournament as the goalkeeper warmed his way into the hearts of Nigerians through some excellent saves and good control of the ball during the tournament.

Unfortunately, Nwabali could not win the Goalkeeper of the Tournament award, but the player is set for a better future as European clubs have shown interest in the Chippa United player.
