Drogba wary of Super Eagles AFCON threat

Ivory Coast will play the three times African champions in their second game of the Group stage as both teams will want to ensure they qualify for the Round of 16 stages of the competition.

FORMER Chelsea and Ivory Coast striker, Didier Drogba has warned the Elephants of Ivory Coast to be wary of the Super Eagles of Nigeria at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria were drawn in Group A of the AFCON Group stage alongside the host country, Ivory Coast with Equatorial Guinea and Guinea-Bissau being the other teams in the Group.

Drogba reckoned that the Super Eagles were a big team that would pose a problem for his countrymen.

“There’s no such thing as a generous draw because all the teams deserve to be here, and they’re going to fight,” Drogba, who scored 65 goals for the Elephants, told the BBC.

”Nigeria, with Victor Osimhen and all the players they have, is a big team. We mustn’t forget the other two teams because there are always surprises,” he added.

The 2023 AFCON finals will run from January 13, 2024, to February 11, 2024.
