DESPITE winning the Yachine trophy at the 2022 Ballon d'Or ceremony in Paris, Thibaut Courtois was not happy with the award results.

The Real Madrid goalkeeper had an issue with the way the voting and result collation was conducted, noting that the award process does not favour goalkeepers.

Courtois who placed seventh on the list said, "You win La Liga and you win the Champions League, your team wins thanks to your saves… and you only finish seventh. The truth is that I see it as impossible.

“In the top 10, there wasn’t even a single defender. At least this year they have invented the trophy for best goalkeeper."

The award was won by his teammate Karim Benzema who no doubt deserved the award for his performance last season, as Real Madrid won the league and the highly rated Champions league trophy.

As of today, Lev Yachine remains the only goalkeeper to date to win the Ballon d'Or since 1963. Ironically he was named after the award which is given to the best goalkeeper of the season. The award that was won by Courtois yesterday.
