Before that, a video on CAF social media showed African football legends answering questions about who was their favourite to win the award, in which Nigeria’s Amunike wasted no time in naming Salah when the camera panned on him.

Amunike has explained that he wasn’t asked about Osimhen rather, the question was based on Mohammed Salah and Achraf Hakimi.

“I was never elected to vote in the CAF Awards.

“A Moroccan journalist came to me and asked, ‘Hakimi or Salah’. I said Salah because I played in Egypt, I lived in Egypt, and I know some of the guys there. Osimhen was never in the conversation,” he said, per Godwin Enakhena.

However, Osimhen, on receiving the CAF Player of the Year award, thanked Emmanuel Amunike for discovering him.
