AFCON25: CAF inspects 6 Nigerian stadiums

AHEAD of the 2025 African Cup of Nations, the Confederation of African Football has started inspecting the stadium facilities in Nigeria due to a joint bid with Benin Republic to host the event.

Recall that Nigeria and Benin Republic submitted a joint bid to host the competition, which also saw proposals from Algeria, Morocco, South Africa, and Zambia.

CAF has sent representatives to inspect stadiums capable of hosting the event, such as the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja, Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos, Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, and Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna.

Over the course of three days, the representatives have inspected four stadia which are the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja, Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos, which is currently undergoing renovation works, the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, and the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City.

It would be an excellent record for the nation should they win the bid to jointly host the tournament, having hosted it in 1980, and co-hosted with Ghana in 2000.

Also, CAF will inspect the Stade Charles de Gaulle, Porto Novo in the Benin Republic.
