Lagos Deputy Commissioner of Police hangs self in Oyo

A Deputy Commissioner of Police serving with the Force Criminal and Investigation Department in Alagbon, Lagos State, Gbolahan Oyedemi, had reportedly committed suicide in his house in his hometown in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.

According to media reports, Oyedemi was the Aide de Camp to the late former Governor of Oyo State, Adebayo Alao-Akala, during his 11-month tenure as Defacto Governor in 2006.9122

A source close to the family disclosed that Oyedemi, who normally visited his hometown during the Easter celebrations, told his aides at the weekend to go to their various towns to celebrate with their family members.

The source said, “Yes, he committed suicide. His body was found hanging in his house yesterday (Monday). He stays alone, and he normally comes home for Easter celebrations.

“This time, he told his aides to go and celebrate with their family members in their various homes. Only God knows what could have prompted him to commit suicide.”9123

Meanwhile, the FCID spokesperson, Aminat Mayegun, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, who confirmed the incident, said the police have begun investigating his death.

Mrs Mayegun added that the deceased, who was an aide to the late Israel Ajao, a former Deputy Inspector General of Police, and the late Young Arebamen, a former Commissioner of Police, could not have committed suicide.
